Thurby, Oaks, and Derby Week!

    Welcome to Louisville, Kentucky during Derby Week! Louisville is always a bustling city, but on this week, it really comes to life. If it’s your first Derby week, or if you’re in from out of town, you might have some questions.

    What is Thurby
    ?
    On Thursday, locals gather at the track to watch the races. It used to be that Oaks was predominately for locals, but as the popularity grew, more celebrities and tourists came into Louisville for both Oaks and Derby. Since that time, Locals arrive on Thursday to enjoy the track, and heavy betters attend in hopes of catching a glimpse at some Oaks and Derby contenders. For tickets, click here.

    What is Oaks?
    Oaks occurs on Friday, and is celebrated by being a race of only fillies– that is, three year old female thoroughbreds. Oaks winners are given a blanket of stargazer lilies. This race has also been associated with breast cancer awareness and celebration of breast cancer survivors. For tickets, click  here. If you plan on attending Oaks, be sure to wear PINK!

    So what is Derby?
    The most exciting two minutes in sports! Derby Day boasts races throughout the day, but the race itself is a quick race that qualifies the winner to begin his quest for the Triple Crown. The race participants are three year old male Thoroughbreds. For ticket options, click here.
